While documentary might be the practice of giving a shape to a document or a series of documents – of ordering the world in some way – the document is in a yet-to-be-ordered state … Ben Highmore, Document-Time-Memory (Tate Liverpool, 2006)
Sitting Room present an afternoon of work and research into the documenting of common places. What does it mean to tell stories about commonly held places and experience, how can the document be read politically and poetically? The work discussed and presented today responds to these questions in different ways, documenting lullabies, eavesdroppings, bollards, habitats: responding in chorus, and without words. Film, panel discussion, performance. Supported by the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL.
Jake Auerbach, Tom Phillips, Ben Highmore, Maya Oppenheimer, Sophie Chatellier, Emilia Weber + Claire Healy.
